Very rare ticket from 1927

This ticket is from a new years eve postseason Intersectional game. Back then teams from different regions didnt play each other because of the long travel times, so this was kind of like an exhibition game. There was only a few played every year because travel times were soo long. It was played the day before the rose bowl in order to maximize attendance and coverage. Intersectional games gave teams a chance to see the different play styles of other regions, and were a test bed for the eventual nationwide leagues that we know today.

It was also a memorial. The game held sentimental value as it was played in the stadium built for legendary coach Andy Smith, who had coached at both Penn and California before his death in 1926. Before kickoff, his former players dedicated the iconic Andy Smith Bench in his memory.

The bears won 27-13
