Gibson Woody Guthrie Southern Jumbo Signature Model Rare Vintage Style

Description

Woody Guthrie (1912–1967) was an American folk singer from Oklahoma. He is considered the father of folk songs, celebrating the traveling "hobo" lifestyle of the 1960s. This model was released in 2003 as a limited edition signature model bearing his name. At the time, it was sold as a set as part of the "FATHER & SON" collection, featuring Woody Guthrie's Southern Jumbo and his son Arlo Guthrie's LG-2 3/4, and became a hot topic.
This guitar is based on the early pre-war Southern Jumbo from around 1943.

The body top is spruce, the sides and back are mahogany, the neck is mahogany, and the fingerboard and bridge are rosewood. The nut width is 43.8 mm (1.725 inches), and the scale length is 628 mm (24.75 inches). The body binding is multi-ply cell binding, similar to vintage models.

The headstock features a script and banner logo, no fingerboard binding, mother-of-pearl double parallelogram inlays, and a down-belly-style short slot bridge. The fire-pattern pickguard evokes a pre-war SJ look. The inner orange label clearly reads "WOODY GUTHRIE SOUTHERN JUMBO."
The original tuning machines have been replaced with new ones with Kluson-style white buttons and smooth action.

The pickups are L.R. Baggs Element VTCs, an active type powered by a 9V battery and featuring volume and tone controls inside the soundhole. The power jack allows for direct plugging into an amp or acoustic DI. These pickups are highly regarded for live performances and recording.

Over 20 years have passed since new, and this particular instrument shows considerable signs of wear. There is significant weathering of the lacquer on the body top, and two noticeable scratches near the pickguard. The entire top of the body is dotted with dents, scuffs, and scratches.
The body binding has amber-colored over time, with scattered checkering and clear coat peeling. Similar scratches and weather-checking can be seen on the sides of the body. There is an approximately 10cm crack on the side of the body near the 6th string, which has been repaired with a backing patch.
The back of the body also has buckle scratches, scuffs, dents, and weather-checking. There is weather-checking on the back of the neck, but no major dents and it does not interfere with playability. There is checkering on the head plate, and a large dent near the 1st-string tuning machine. Overall, this guitar has been played quite a lot. A strap pin is attached to the heel cap.

The strings are well-adjusted, with the string height at the 12th fret being 2.3mm for the 6th string and 1.8mm for the 1st string. The saddle has been replaced and there is ample space, and the fret height is also generous. The truss rod is in perfect working order, and the instrument will be maintenance-free for the time being.

It has a deep mid-low range and the crisp, articulate sound of a mahogany body. Its well-balanced resonance is appealing, offering a warmth when played with your fingers, making it easy to use with either a flat pick or fingerpicking.

Includes original hard case. This is your chance to own a limited-edition signature model at an affordable price.
