Vintage Suitcase-Style Wicker Picnic/Storage Basket Excellent Condition

In excellent vintage condition. This handwoven suitcase-style wicker basket's structure is remarkably intact. The wicker weave is tight and has maintained its rectangular "suitcase" shape without any sagging or distortion. The honey-brown stain finish is consistent across the lid and body, with no fading. The faux leather straps and silver metal clasps are completely functional and securely attached. The handle shows no signs of detachment or fraying. The woven wicker hinges are still in excellent condition. The silver-tone hardware on handle does show very minimal signs of age tarnish, which would be expected for its age. Appears to have had minimal, if any use, and has been in storage for several years. Please see photos to confirm excellent condition.

This vintage, suitcase-style Wicker picnic basket is crafted from handwoven willow and features a classic rectangular design with a warm, natural honey-brown finish. Lightweight and very well-constructed, its rectangular, "suitcase-style" shape makes it portable and suitable for carrying personal items like clothes, towels, or books, or for home storage suitcases for sundries, makeup, or as decorative prop boxes.

Vintage "English suitcase" style.

Features a suitcase-style reinforced handle, designed for a comfortable grip and easy portability. The handle is secured to the wicker body by two rectangular metal brackets that allow it to swivel or lay flat against the basket. Features a mix of functional and decorative hardware components designed for durability and a vintage aesthetic. Features faux leather straps and silver-tone metal clasps and hardware to keep contents secure during transit. Two vertical tapered straps are used to keep the lid closed. Each strap is secured to the lid with three silver-tone rivets or studs. At the base of each vertical strap is a metal turn-lock (twist-lock) mechanism. This allows the user to easily secure the lid by twisting the metal tab through a corresponding slot in the strap. Each turn-lock is mounted on a shield-shaped leatherette patch, which is itself riveted directly into the wicker to provide a sturdy anchor point. Made to be durable, handmade from high-quality natural willow or wicker. The honey-brown protective stain finish adds to its longevity.

Note the "bowed" lid: The bowed or arched shape of the lid is primarily designed to increase the internal capacity of the basket. This "domed" effect allows you to pack items that might sit slightly taller than the main rim of the basket, such as a bottle of wine or a taller food container, without forcing the lid open.
