Only date in book is © 1939, however the first edition date of 1939 is not the date of this edition. The latest titles listed in the book offers information about when this book was published. Dr. Seuss's ABC and Hop on Pop are listed (both published in 1963); (Fox In Socks and I Had Trouble In Getting To Solla Sollew  are not listed (both published in 1965) so this information suggests that this edition was published in 1963, 1964, or 1965. Other books with this same pictorial pastedown have a "Copyright renewed in 1967" notation; this book does not include that wording and suggests as stated above that this edition was published earlier.

Please refer to the list of titles that are included in the book as it is an important tool in dating Dr. Suess books. The King's Stilts was Dr. Seuss's third book.
