Description:
Struck at the Rome mint in AD 336–337 during the final phase of Constantine the Great’s reign, this half nummus belongs to the late GLORIA EXERCITVS series featuring a single standard. The star officina mark between R and T is an extremely scarce Rome mint variety and is absent from the main RIC listing for this issue, making this a desirable variant.
The obverse depicts Constantius II as Caesar, shortly before his elevation to Augustus. The reverse image of two soldiers flanking a single standard symbolizes unity, discipline, and the military foundation of the Constantinian dynasty during the closing years of Constantine’s rule.
Coins of this Rome emission with R★T mintmark are notably rare, appearing only in specialized collections and seldom in the market.
