RARE MEMPHIS TENNESSEE 1919 PREFERRED STOCK CERT. LOEB'S INC. HENRY & LOUIS LOEB
Good condition considering the age. Shows some storage wear. It was stored folded and that is how it will be shipped. Please see all photos as they help in the description and ask if in doubt.
Passed down in the family, Jas. (James) F. Fontaine (Clarksdale, MS) purchased 2 shares of Loeb's Incorporated Preferred Stock December 10, 1919 for $100 each. The certificate is signed Henry Loeb, President and Louis Loeb, Treasurer. The handwriting for both looks very similar so assume someone signed for them both, but don't know for a fact.
In 1887, Henry Loeb, Sr. was selling hats and shirts in Memphis and later expanded into the laundry business, creating a very successful family busines.  Mr. Loeb, Sr. died in 1936 and his son, William, took over the family business. Henry Loeb's grandson, Henry Loeb III would go on to serve as mayor of Memphis for two non-consecutive terms.
