Original photo album dating from 1946–1947 (Hebrew year 5707), an authentic historical document documenting the lives of Holocaust survivors during the transitional period from displaced persons camps to the Land of Israel.
The album contains approximately 60 original photographs and one “Shanah Tovah” (Jewish New Year greeting). The photographs document daily life, community activity, and the rebuilding of Jewish identity in the immediate post-war years.
The album includes:
Rare photographs from the Salzburg Displaced Persons Camp – “Bialik Camp”
Photographs of women wearing armbands bearing the Star of David
A wedding photograph and a Brit Milah (circumcision) photograph, documenting key Jewish life-cycle events held in the DP camp
A small but historically significant group of photographs showing early Israel Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers, from the formative years of the state
Family photographs strongly suggesting a Holocaust survivor family that lived in the DP camp and later immigrated to Israel

Bialik House was a major Displaced Persons (DP) camp established near Salzburg, Austria, after the Holocaust, within the American occupation zone. It served as a key center of transit and rehabilitation for Jewish survivors on their way to the Land of Israel.
Beyond providing shelter, the camp played a central role in the reconstruction of Jewish communal life, offering:
Educational frameworks for children
Vocational training
Cultural and Zionist activities
The population consisted primarily of Jewish survivors from Poland and Eastern Europe who had endured the Holocaust and were awaiting immigration.
Bialik Camp was part of a broader network of DP camps in Austria administered by the U.S. Army, in cooperation with Jewish relief organizations such as the Joint Distribution Committee (JDC). Together with other DP camps in the region, it represented a critical station on the road to the establishment of the State of Israel and the rehabilitation of the She’erit Hapletah (the surviving remnant of European Jewry).
