This is a great condition, antique White Mountains print, framed and hand-colored. Original 1850's steel engraving by J. & F. Tallis, London and New York. The engraving is titled "WHITE MOUNTAINS, NEW HAMPSHIRE" and has been colored by hand. Surrounding the engraving are five hand-colored vignettes; two are titled: "General Stark Defeats Colonel Baum at Bennington - 1777," and "Murder of Miss M'Rea." Decorative gold frame with a wire securely attached at the back for hanging. A highly attractive piece, perfectly suitable for display. "J. & F. Tallis" was a prominent 19th-century English publishing firm founded by brothers John and Frederick Tallis. They are world-renowned for producing some of the most decorative and artistically refined steel-engraved maps, atlases, and illustrated views of the Victorian era. The frame measures 16" wide x 13" tall.
