Fall/Winter 2013 Ready-to-Wear (Archive Piece)
This is a completely unique Thom Browne bag created for the Fall/Winter 2013 Ready-to-Wear runway show in New York.
Based on Thom Browne’s classic structured briefcase silhouette, this piece was customised specifically for the runway, featuring a hand-applied clear and opaque resin / lacquer treatment across the exterior. This was never a production item and exists as a one-of-one archival runway object.
The bag was gifted to me directly following the show while I was interning at Thom Browne in New York at the start of my career. It has never been used and has been carefully stored for over a decade.
While rooted in the briefcase form, this piece functions as a sculptural top-handle bag and fashion object, rather than a conventional work bag, and should be viewed in the context of runway presentation and archive collecting.
Condition
Archival runway condition. Never used. The hand-applied resin finish shows natural variation consistent with time-pressured show production. In places, embedded fibres (fluff) are visible and have dried within the applied resin — a result of the piece being finished shortly before the runway presentation (applied by the designer). Whilst I don't have the expertise, it might be easily removed with the right product. No structural damage. Leather, hardware, and interior are in excellent condition.
