Vehicle Description

1951 Chevrolet 3600 Flatbed Truck

For consignment, a 1951 Chevrolet 3600 flatbed truck with a title verified 8,895 actual miles. Owned by our consignor for 20 years, this truck was a staple at car shows around Cape May, New Jersey.

Exterior
White paint covers the big cab including the substantial grille while black serves as contrast on the wheels, bedframe, side mirrors, and front bumper. That means there's less chrome for you to polish and the rig loses none of its working truck appeal. Oak stakes line the flat bed with some nice patina and the bed is painted black and houses a black trunk. In back, a pair of round tail lights sit behind large black mudflaps as a single exhaust pipe makes its exit. Imperfections include an area of thin paint over a headlight and on a fender, along with some cracking paint and crease cracks on the fender, paint chips on the window sill, some blistering on the back of the cab, and a ding on a upper rung of the grille.

Interior
Black vinyl panels top the inner doors and both pulls are in need of some restoration, while the grain vinyl black bench is in great shape. Our steering wheel tells the story of long work days and shows some age and it leads to the very original dashboard, a mix of patina and newer paint, a vintage AM radio and ribbed door on the glovebox. A tall shifter rises from the floor with a textured rubber covering over it.

Drivetrain
White paint colors the valve cover over a blue block of the 216ci inline six cylinder. It's rated at 94 horsepower and is accompanied by a 1-barrel carburetor. A 4-speed manual transmission sends power to the rear axle and 4.57 gears. The truck runs on a six volt system.

Undercarriage
Clean, driver quality underneath with some surface rust and some gunk build up on certain components. Drum brakes are at all four wheels and leaf springs reside front and back. The single exhaust flows through a stock style muffler and exits out back as noted earlier.

Drive-Ability
The inline six starts up without issue but is running a bit rough, so we keep our lap just long enough to test functional items. We note the wipers, heater blower, radio, and speedometer are not working but remaining items do function. While Classic Auto Mall represents that these functions were working at the time of our test drive, we cannot guarantee these functions will be working at the time of your purchase.

The Advanced Design brochure for '51 is a forty eight page document that covers this truck and the many other models offered by Chevrolet. And if you wanted to become an expert on the truck you own, Chevrolet made it easy in '51 with this incredible colorful document full of truck illustrations and specifications. "Heartbeat of America" wasn't coined until 1984 by Chevy, but it could have easily applied in 1951.
