Extra large Zapotec handwoven wool blanket or rug 8' 8" x 4' 10" with southwestern colors and design.
I bought this in Nogales, AZ in 1989 for $350 (equivalent to $950 in today's dollars) and used it sparingly as a heavy winter comforter and wall hanging. Never as a rug. There was a 3" by 1.5" spot that was damaged and repaired--see photos.
Weighs 10 lbs. Never been cleaned. Was stored in a plastic bag for about 32 yrs.
From what I learned from a Hopi artist, the square hook design is a water sign, typical of their designs and later copied by other puebloans and Navajo artists. The stair step is, of course imitating the silhouette of a pueblo. The bed shown is a standard queen size as a reference.
