It’s an elegant set of American sterling silver cordials, have some fun and bid!
The Manchester Silver Co. of Providence, Rhode Island traces its roots to 1887, when William H. Manchester founded W.H. Manchester & Co. as a maker of sterling silver flatware and hollowware. Around the turn of the century the firm was reorganized as Manchester Mfg. Co., a name it used roughly from 1898 until the mid-1910s. In 1915 it adopted the name Manchester Silver Co., under which it became known for a wide range of sterling patterns and the advertising slogan “If it’s Manchester, it’s sterling.” During the 1950s the company expanded its design repertoire by acquiring the dies of the Boston-area silversmith Richard Dimes Co., allowing it to continue and adapt some of that firm’s patterns. Manchester Silver Co. remained active in Providence into the 1980s until it was sold to J.C. Boardman Co. in 1985, effectively ending nearly a century of independent operation in the American sterling trade.
