Description: Struck at Siscia during the brief and turbulent caesareship of Constantius Gallus this classic fallen horseman type symbolizes Roman victory over barbarian riders and the restoration of order along the Danube frontier. Siscia produced some of the sharpest engravings of the mid fourth century and the presence of officina and crescent marks allows precise attribution. The fallen horseman series is one of the most collected Constantinian issues and well centered Siscia examples with clear figures are particularly desirable.
