Lespedeza Bicolor

DESCRIPTION:
Lespedecia stands out for its luxuriant, abundant flowering and gracefully curved shoots. At the same time, this plant is especially attractive in the last summer weeks, when its shoots are covered with many luxurious flowers. This semi-shrub is perfect for decorating both the terrace and the garden area. The Lespedeza plant is part of the Legume family. This genus unites about 60 species of deciduous semi-shrubs, shrubs and herbaceous plants, among which there are both perennials and annuals. In natural conditions, the arboretum can be found in Australia, as well as in the Northern Hemisphere (including Korea, Japan and China). Sometimes it is grown as a fodder crop. The name of this plant was given by Andre Michaud in 1790, who was appointed royal botanist by Louis XVI. As a participant in a long trip to North America, Michaud named a large number of plants. At the same time, Lespedeca got its name in honor of the Spanish governor of Florida, Vicente Manuel de Zespedes y Velasco. This plant is represented by medium-sized semi-shrubs and shrubs, the height of which can reach up to 150-200 cm. Therefore, it can decorate any garden, even a small one. At the same time, gardeners appreciate the arboretum for the fact that it has a drooping, spectacular crown, which consists of long shoots with a curved shape. At the same time, they are covered with small leaves. The leaf plates have a triple shape (like a clover) — they consist of 3 leaflets. In this regard, shrubby forms of lespedets have names such as shrub clover or treelike clover. But in fact, clover and black clover are completely different plants. Such a deciduous semi-shrub is highly decorative and is appreciated in culture for its lush flowering in the last summer and first autumn weeks. The racemose long inflorescences consist of small flowers, similar in appearance to the flowers of sweet peas. Flowers that look like small butterflies are a characteristic feature of plants that are part of the Legume family. The color of the flowers is purple-pink, almost crimson. They open in cascades on hanging inflorescences. The naturally curved branches bend even more under the weight of the inflorescences. After the flowers fade, fruits form in their place, which are pods. They fly off the branches even before they open. This crop blooms from the last weeks of summer until the first autumn frosts. In order to achieve the most lush flowering, it is recommended to plant the bush in a rock garden or near a low wall, while the place should be well lit and protected from the cold wind. In the literature, lespedecu is sometimes referred to as Desmodium penduliflorum. The fact is that this culture and desmodium are very similar to each other. The main difference between these plants is the fruits with seeds. Lespedecia has only one seed in one fruit, while desmodium has several seeds.
