Offered is an authentic antique Gorham sterling silver desk tray, produced in the Edwardian era, circa 1900–1915, and crafted in the United States by one of America’s most respected silversmiths.
This piece is solid .925 sterling silver (not plated, not weighted), with a substantial total weight of 114 grams. It bears Gorham’s classic lion–anchor–G hallmark, along with STERLING and pattern number 335, confirming original manufacture by Gorham Manufacturing Company.
The tray features an elegant faceted square form with hand-chased floral scroll engraving, a style strongly associated with early 20th-century Gorham desk and presentation silver. Originally intended as a gentleman’s desk tray or calling-card tray, pieces of this form were also historically used as ash receivers, making it a versatile and period-appropriate accessory.
The engraved period monogram at center is original and consistent with the era, adding authenticity rather than detracting. Overall condition is excellent for age, with light surface wear consistent with careful use and no structural issues.
This is not scrap silver. With today’s silver prices, the intrinsic melt value alone establishes a strong baseline, and Gorham’s name, form, and early production era justify a significant premium above melt for collectors and serious silver buyers.
