I need to start by stating that for description purposes, I am assuming that this wood is mahogany but I am really bad at woods….

This is a good example of a Victorian mahogany artist's box dating from, it would be my guess, the early 1900’s not just because of the Bakelite handle, although that could have been replaced, but because of the tongue and groove corners that are a bit more refined than those of the late 1800’s. The box has brass hook closures, various interior dividers containing old tubes of paint, palette knives, and other materials including three original tin paint holders that attach to the palette. It also comes with its original shaped artist's palette.

The palette is stored neatly above the paints and the lid of the box is supported by a metal arm. The lid contains some slots for palettes and the like and the front edge hinges open to allow for these to slide in & out easily.

The whole set is in good condition for its age and has the look of a genuine well used Artist's box, as original now as the day it was last used. There are plenty of signs of age and use, some marks and knocks, tarnish and paint spills but this all contributes to its lovely patina. The box itself is in overall good antique condition with general wear commensurate with age and use.
