For sale is a very interesting pair of French Louis XV gilt bronze thermometers. (NOTE: ONE COMES APART AT THE TOP AND BOTTOM)
From a private estate collection of all things Napoleon Bonaparte including porcelains, ceramics, bronze sculpture, plates, and many other antique collectibles associated with Napoleon.
This pair of thermometers with an overall Corinthian columnar form with a glass colum body housing gilt paper backed glass thermometers.
The French style capital with a gilt figure of Napoleon Bonaparte top finial.
Each base stamped Gift Guild (one on side of base, the other on the bottom.) See pics
They definitely have some age. We were thinking probably 1940s to 1960s. Could possibly be much earlier.
One of the thermometers comes apart at the top and at the base. We have shown a picture of that in its parts. The other one is completely intact. Probably held together by some type of strong adhesive at the top of the glass tube in the bottom at the base in the glass tube.
Both glass thermometers in fine working condition and displaying an accurate temperature
One of the thermometers without the cork feet on the bottom
Measurements
Height - 6 1/8"
Base - 1 1/2" square
The thermometer that is apart, can easily be reattached permanently like the other. Bring it to a conservator.
