Lovely set of antique books from 1844 by Charles Lever that display quite well. These have a bit of history as the bindings were done by George Robertson, a well-known publisher of the time that had a good working relationship with Charles Lever. Robertson would take books printed in England and publish them himself to export to Australia and various other places abroad.
Both volumes have leather bindings and are in surprisingly good shape for their age. Covers have some wear; A fair bit of scuffing(particularly to the centers of the front and back covers where they likely rubbed against flat surface), some scratches, a bit of light rubbing along the edges, and some dents if you look closely. Both look like they have been read more than a few times and while all pages are legible there is some wear to them scattered throughout. There is tanning, age spotting, evidence of water stains here and there, fingerprints, and a few light markups in pencil. All pages are intact and secure and the books show no evidence of coming apart; They’re quite solid. They also smell like old books; Nothing bad but they definitely have an “old book” aroma.
Will be carefully wrapped and packed for shipping. Please see pictures for details and if you have any questions let us know.
