Description: Issued at Siscia during the turbulent caesareship of Constantius Gallus this fallen horseman type represents Roman victory over barbarian cavalry and the restoration of stability to the Danube frontier. Siscia produced some of the sharpest and heaviest fallen horseman bronzes with a distinctive eastern style portrait and clear mintmarks. Early officina-marked examples like this are desirable for their strong engravings and historical importance during Constantius II’s restructuring of imperial command.
