Ideal gift for special occassions, also a great item for painting collectors. In a rectangular shape, insert in a wood frame, below a glass, an scene of Richard the Lionheart and Henry VI. This etching was originally published as a lithography, in the Anton Ziegler's book: 'Gallery from the Austrian Fatherland's History in pictorial representation' (Gallerie aus der Österreichischen Vaterlandsgeschichte in bildlicher Darstellung), Nr. 62, Austria 1838.
RICHARD THE LIONHEART's SURRENDER TO THE KING HENRY VI.
The image is a 19th-century engraving titled "Gallerie der oesterr. Bisch. u. Zugler.". It depicts a scene identified in one search result as Richard I of England ("Richard the Lionheart"), who was captured by Duke Leopold V of Austria near Vienna in 1192. The illustration shows the moment Richard, as a prisoner, appears before the Holy Roman Emperor, Henry VI, in March 1193.
The figure on the elaborate throne, with the lion emblem visible on its side and an eagle on the backrest (which is a symbol often associated with the Holy Roman Emperor), is likely Henry VI, to whom Richard was handed over after his capture by the Duke of Austria.
