This is just a spectacular piece of authentic 19th-century history. This antique majolica serving dish has the most incredible vibrant green glaze and a deeply embossed botanical pattern. It's the perfect statement piece for adding a layer of rich, maximalist texture to your home.

Features

This oval platter features a stunning, high-relief design of a large central leaf (perhaps a grape leaf?), surrounded by clusters of grapes, charming strawberries, and delicate flowers. The classic majolica glaze gives it that wonderful, glossy, and slightly imperfect finish that collectors adore. The fine crazing across the surface is a beautiful testament to its age.

Condition

This is an antique item, well over 100 years old, and it shows a lovely, authentic patina. As shown in the photos, there is glaze loss and nibbles around the rim , and a few chips, primarily on the underside/base . There is all-over crazing, which is typical and desirable for majolica of this age. It's still a solid and absolutely beautiful display piece.

Styling Ideas

  1. Cabinet Display: This is a classic "cabinet plate" - it would look stunning displayed on a Welsh dresser, in a glass cabinet, or on a bookshelf, propped up on a stand.
  2. Table Centrepiece: While I'd be cautious with heavy food use due to its age, it would make a gorgeous centrepiece on a dining table or sideboard, perhaps holding decorative items or standing on its own.
  3. Gallery Wall: Add 3D texture to a maximalist gallery wall by hanging it (using a secure plate hanger) among your favourite prints and paintings.
