Bunn Special 23J 60 Hour Type II
Illinois Watch Co. Bunn Special 23 jewel 60 Hour Type II 16 size open face lever-set pocket watch. A rare watch, total production of this Type II variant of the 23 jewel 60 Hour is believed to be between 450 made and 650 made per Michael Chamelin's superb Bunn Special book. The Type II is notable as being "double marked" with its 60 Hour notation having a spelled out "Sixty Hour" marking to its train bridge as well as a "Motor Barrel 60" marking to its barrel bridge. Watch is housed in a green gold-filled Bunn Special Model case and is fronted by a double-sunk enamel dial. Movement serial number is 4718441.
Running and a nice looking movement overall with good color and luster. Plates have some typical mild scattered surface marks, train bridge has a bit of finish disturbance in the area tight around its right side screw, and winding wheels have some oxide at portions of their perimeters. Dial is very nice with just a mild fine scratch at 49 minutes and some beveling of the dial's perimeter edge under the case bezel. Hour and minute hands have some areas of finish loss. Case is showing its years of use with areas of wear to brass and some scattered dings. Glass crystal has some scattered fine scratches and surface nicks.
