Description:
Struck in AD 284 at the very beginning of Diocletian’s reign this antoninianus displays a classic accession type. Jupiter the chief Roman god presents Victory to the new emperor symbolizing divine approval and legitimate authority. Tripolis produced a short but distinctive series of antoniniani at this time often with good silvering. The surviving tone on this piece highlights the original surface treatment common to the final issues of the antoninianus denomination before Diocletian reformed the coinage.

Condition:
Good very fine with remaining silvering and typical surface roughness. Guaranteed authentic.
