1928 1st Edition The Story of Mary’s Little Lamb Published by Mr. & Mrs. Henry Ford in Dearborn, Michigan. More than just a printing of the beloved nursery rhyme, this book preserves the authentic history of “Mary and her little lamb,” the New England schoolhouse she attended, and the true individuals behind the famous verses. The book was created in conjunction with Henry Ford’s restoration of the old Redstone Schoolhouse (originally built in 1798 in Sterling, Massachusetts, later moved to Sudbury near the Wayside Inn). Inside are accounts by Mary Sawyer’s neighbors and friends, along with illustrations, facsimiles of McGuffey Reader pages, period photographs, and a critical analysis of the poem. It explores the real story of Mary Sawyer, her classmates, the teacher, and how Sarah Josepha Hale’s verses immortalized the tale that became one of the best-known children’s poems in the world. Hardcover, 40 pages with illustrations and photos throughout. Spine cover has some cracks and missing bit at the top and the pages have some age-related discoloration. Spine is still firmly bound. Overall a very good copy of this antique first edition. Smoke free home. Please see pics and message me with any questions.
