NOTE: Penn made the 6840 for use with a door knob on each side of the door (this is NOT that version) and they also made one for use with a thumb handle from each side of the door and that IS the lock in this auction.
Vintage: PENN
HARDWARE CO circa 1930 - 1950 entry mortise lock lock. Penn made this lock in several variations so check the numbers closely to be sure you are buying the one you need. The lock comes with a new
Security Guard brass cylinder lock and two keys. Note that this model of the 6840 does not have push button on the face and it requires a thumb press handle from each side of the door. The lock works perfectly!
When we rebuild a lock, we do not always polish the face to brighter brass as most customers wish for their locks to match the patina on the balance of the hardware currently on the their doors. We can polish the face for an additional charge, contact us if that is necessary.
This lock will accommodate a thumb turn lock for the dead bolt from the inside of the door and the outside of the door, there is no provision for turn knobs.
Dimensions as follows:
FACEPLATE: Brass front plate measures 7 3/4" long, 1" wide, 1/8" thick.
BOX: Box is 3 5/8" deep from the back of the brass faceplate to the back of box. Box is 5 5/8" tall.
SCREWS: Screws are on 7" centers. .
BACKSET: Back set (the distance from the front edge of the brass faceplate to the center of the cylinder lock) is 2 1/2".

Very clean inside and out, no rust, functions very well, heavy duty and with keys!
P.F. Corbin was right: Great houses do deserve great hardware!
