Antique Victorian Pickle Castor – Toronto Silver Plate Co. – Quadruple Plate #9, 91 or 9l – Ruby Cranberry Coin Spot Glass Insert – ca. 1890s
A rare and ornate Victorian pickle castor, made by the Toronto Silver Plate Company (active 1882–1913). Marked QUADRUPLE PLATE with company hallmark and model number.
The castor features an elaborately decorated Aesthetic Art Nouveau style frame with scroll and fan motifs, standing on four ornate feet. It retains its original ruby cranberry glass insert, with coin-spot/thumbprint patterning, in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. The lid is also original, featuring matching floral finial.
Condition: Overall excellent antique condition. Silverplate shows minor wear consistent with age; rich patina remains. Original pickle fork/tongs are missing, though replacements are readily available. Glass insert is bright and intact.
Measurements: see detailed photos
• Height (with lid): ~11 in (28 cm)
• Glass insert: ~4.5 in tall, 3 in diameter
This is a fine example of Canadian Victorian silverplate and a collectible addition for cranberry glass enthusiasts or pickle castor collectors.
