This is a collection of the fourteen article series that appeared in the mid-Sixties Trains Magazine - a time when railfans were just graduating from "all diesels look alike" and wanted more information than "A 1000 hp switcher". under a caption. It covers the history of EMC/EMD from gas-electric railcars to the announcement of the "1966 line" powered by the brand new 645 engine. Chapter titles include "Diesels Within Yard Limits", "Those Elegant E's" ,"F Means Freight". "Everyman's Locomotive - The GP" and "Six Motors for Special Duty". It also includes an editorial retrospective giving a railfan reaction to dieselization in general and EMD's role in particular as well as an inside look at building locomotives at EMD's legendary LaGrange Factory. It was an excellent companion to the first edition of The Diesel Spotters Guide by the same publisher which covered the entire industry instead of zeroing in on one builder
