National RQ-418.
Released in 1976.
A cool unit with an old-school look.
It has been disassembled once and is fully serviced and maintained.
I wonder if it falls into the cassette recorder category?
Unlike a radio cassette player, it lacks radio functionality and is specialized for cassette playback.
Personally, I really like the design with the blue and red accent buttons.
It runs on either a power cable or 6 AA batteries, making it usable indoors or outdoors.
Its compact size makes it just right for simply listening to cassettes.
I'm not sure if this is the original specification, but the fast-forward (Cue) button doesn't hold; you need to keep pressing it. The rewind (Review) button does hold.
I checked the internal cassette deck but couldn't find a hold mechanism, so I suspect this is just how it was designed.
The built-in microphone doesn't work. I haven't confirmed if an external microphone can be connected.
AUX IN is not supported.
Since the original power cable was missing, I've included a generic replacement.
