Seller: Alley-Antiques DESCRIPTION: Antique Porcelain. This is a very collectible 122 year old lidded Mettlach stein. Pattern no. 2832. Pattern is called the Girl and Song Verse. Marked on bottom with maker and the Mettlach date code number 04 for 1904. 1/2 liter light blue ground stein with inlaid lid. The Girl and Song pattern has text in German that reads "Ich weiss ein Hauschen, am grunen Rhein, umranket von Reblaub die Fensterlein. Drin waltet ein Madchen, so engelgleich, an Golde so arm, doch an Tugend so reich", which translates to "I know a little house on the green Rhein, where the little windows are surrounded by vines. In it reigns a maiden so angelic, in gold so poor, but in virtue so rich". Light blue stein with pattern. Antique. Guaranteed over 100 years old. Very good condition. No chips, cracks, or repairs. Nice and clean with little wear.  Pewter for lid with nice aged natural patina. Mettlach made high quality very collectible steins. The one listed is over 120 years old and in beautiful condition making this a must for the collector. Selling as pictured (Stein only). Measures about 8 3/4" tall to the top of the thumb rest.
