It is a music synthesizer that combines the realistic sounds of acoustic instruments with the high expressive power of a synthesizer capable of synthesizing and creating sounds.

With a vast library of preset sounds, it supports a wide range of music genres and styles. Its powerful processing power enables musicians to create unique sounds and dynamic performances that they have always desired.

• AWM2

AWM2 (Advanced Wave Memory 2) sound engine

128-note polyphony

Each part (up to 16 parts) of the “AWM2 sound engine” featured in the MODX+ consists of up to 8 elements, which are the smallest units of the sound engine.

Each element is a programmable synthesizer featuring 18 types of filters, amplifiers, pitch and filter envelope generators, 9 LFOs, 3-band EQ, and dual insert effects using VCM (Virtual Circuitry Modeling) technology. This Yamaha-exclusive sampling-based synthesizer sound source enables “creative sound design” rather than simply playing back samples.

FM-X sound engine with 88 algorithms

 The DX7, a legendary digital synthesizer that defined an era. Its FM sound engine, the heart of the DX7, continues to evolve through Yamaha's latest innovations. With an overwhelming dynamic range, the FM-X sound source delivers astonishing expressive power, from cutting-edge EDM sounds that demand power to classic 80s sounds. It surpasses the limits of the original DX7 with 8 operators, 128-note polyphony, and a vast array of filter types and effects. Motion control enables organic sound creation that no one has ever heard before, making it the ultimate FM sound source.

• SMART MORPH

SMART MORPH enables morphing between different FM-X sounds. Its sophisticated algorithm generates a morphing map on the touchscreen from up to 8 FM sounds.

The source FM sounds are displayed as white dots on the map, with the remaining blank areas filled with intermediate sounds created by morphing the individual sounds. By touching the map or moving between two points designated by the Super Knob, users can achieve unique and interactive expressions never before possible.

• 256-NOTE TOTAL POLYPHONY

The MODX+ and MONTAGE feature two sound sources—AWM2 and FM-X—and their unique sound source system achieves a total polyphony of 256 notes (AWM2: 128 notes, FM-X: 128 notes). Players can pursue their musical expression without worrying about note dropouts or delays.

・EFFECTS

The MODX+ features a powerful DSP that enables innovative, powerful, and high-quality effect processing.

From high-resolution reverbs to modeling effects using VCM technology, it delivers the expression players seek. The effects range from EDM-oriented effects such as “Beat Repeat,” “Vinyl Break,” and “Bit Crusher” to “Spiralizer,” which creates the illusion of continuous pitch rise or fall.

You can also add a sidechain to a compressor to create modern ducking effects, or utilize retro-style vintage effects like “Analog Delay,” “VCM Phaser,” and a variety of amp simulators. Pianists will appreciate the piano-focused “Damper Resonance” and the ultra-realistic piano performance space created by high-resolution HD reverb.

• A/D Input

Equipped with a stereo A/D input for connecting analog synths, microphones, and more. Audio signals input via the A/D input can be processed with the same effects as the built-in sound sources. You can intuitively change the sound with knob controls or achieve more complex effect control using motion control.

You can also use a microphone for vocoder effects, vocal effects for singing, or set up an MC microphone for live performances. Additionally, you can synchronize audio signals recorded from a live drum set with audio beat sync for advanced applications.

• Sidechain

The sidechain function is essential for EDM music. Triggered by the kick drum, it creates a pumping effect by rhythmically modulating sustained sounds such as pads.

MODX+ supports importing data created on MONTAGE, MOTIF XF, MOTIF XS, and MOXF.

・DX/TX

Using the FM Converter (web app), you can convert DX series or TX series content and use it on MODX+.

• Integration with DAW

Using MODX Connect, you can exchange data between a PC/Mac and MODX+. Songs created on MODX+ can be edited in a DAW and saved directly to the computer as a file (file name.X7B). MODX Connect is based on Steinberg's VST3 technology and can operate as a VST3 plugin in a DAW, as an AU plugin, or as a standalone application.

• Multi-channel USB audio I/O

Features a studio-quality 4-in/10-out multi-channel USB audio interface. Simply connect to a computer via a single USB cable to set up a computer-based music production environment. Also compatible with iOS devices.

Automation functions used in music production have been optimized for real-time live performance, bringing dynamic sound changes to live performances with sequential yet real-time movement.

・SUPER KNOB

Control up to 128 parameters at once.With the Super Knob, you can express a wide range of sound changes with simple operations. For example, you can create a simple yet versatile effect where the piano sound gradually transitions to strings as you turn the knob to the right, or a more complex expression where various effects are applied as you turn the knob, causing the sound to gradually change, pads to fade in, and a grand soundscape to unfold by the time the knob is fully turned to the right.

By using the optional FC7 foot controller, you can operate the Super Knob hands-free, enabling you to fully utilize this feature even during two-handed performances.

・MOTION SEQUENCES

You can control each of the MODX's vast parameters in sequence and change the tone.

The created motion sequences can be synchronized with the loaded tone, arpeggio, and the rhythm and tempo of connected devices, allowing you to create rhythmic changes in sound in an interactive and real-time manner according to the development of the song.

・ENVELOPE FOLLOWER

The envelope follower can be used to generate control information from part outputs or audio waveforms input from A/D inputs, and then used as a controller to change sounds.

For example, you can use it to drive the effect parameters of the sound being played by the player in real time, triggered by drum playing, for a live feel.

・Audio Beat Sync

Audio Beat Sync (ABS) detects the tempo from the audio input to the A/D input and synchronizes it with the motion sequencer or arpeggio.

・Rubber-coated PB and MW

The modulation wheels feature the same smooth feel and texture as the MONTAGE, with a rubber coating.
