Kosolapov's
Lenin Coca-Cola image was the focus of a law suit brought against him
for using the soft drink logo unlawfully. He fought this lawsuit on the
basis of the familiar image of Coca cola being within the public domain
and therefore accessible to an artist for his/her creative purposes.
Kosolapov asserts that one can look at the design from the right and see
Lenin as a sponsor of Coca-Cola or look from the left and see Coca-Cola
as Lenin's sponsor. Alexander Kosolapov won the lawsuit. He said his
work celebrates the "heritage of socialist realism".
