I made this modest 2" piece from scratch, from a block of very spalted maple wood, then turning it on my lathe and polishing to a semi-gloss shine. I'm not sure what I thought this would be when I started. I just knew that the wood was really special. The finished product is odd, but I love it. My shop is in Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia.
