Copyright 1969; this is a later printing of the book that first appeared with this series in 1963. The cover artwork changed in 1969 with the cover of the earlier versions having just the moon and the new one showing children with a telescope—rocket in the background.

The hardcover books are numbered differently than the softcover ones. In this case the spine number is 4047.

How and Why Wonder Books were a series of illustrated American books published in the 1960s and 1970s that was designed to teach science and history to children and young teenagers. The series began in 1960, and was edited under the supervision of Dr. Paul E. Blackwood of the Office of Education at the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare. The series was published by Wonder Books, Inc., a division of Grosset & Dunlap.

Each How and Why Wonder Book uniformly contained a total of 48 pages, with the only exception being The Environment and You, which contained 64 pages.

CONDITION:

This hard-cover book is in good condition. These books were not issued with dust jackets. The illustrated hardcover is clean, but shows wear at the corners and spine ends. The top two inches of the spine is tearing in the joints of both sides. The interior is excellent with no marks, underlining, tears or odor, although the first two pages have a 1/4 inch dog-ear at the top corner. The hinges and binding are excellent with no loose or missing pages.
