The legendary "Elektra" by Richard Strauss was broadcast from Carnegie Hall on 25 December 1949, with the New York Philharmonic conducted by Dimitri Mitropoulos. The cast included Astrid Varnay as Elektra, Elena Nicolaidi, Herbert Janssen and Frederick Jagel.
The second CD includes rare recordings and broadcast recordings featuring Astrid Varnay with Richard Tucker and Leonard Warren.
