Up for sale here is this complete rebuild kit for the Kenwood KR-9600.  This includes all the parts you need to rebuild all the boards in the Kenwood KR-9600, and it includes new replacement main filter capacitors as well.  The kit also includes parts for a number of modifications that the KR-9600 needs for improved performance.  These are a little complicated but the instructions will walk you through it.  These mods are essential for your KR-9600.

These are all high-quality brand new genuine parts, the same ones I use when I rebuild vintage gear.  The capacitors are 105° Panasonic FC, Nichicon PW, Nichicon KL, Nichicon Muse, Wima film, Panasonic Film, and Chemi-Con (for the main caps) at the correct uf and the same or improved voltage ratings, the transistors are OnSemi and Toshiba, and the relays are new Omron relays.

This kit includes parts to do three essential modifications for the KR-9600.  It includes parts for the triac mod to protect the power switch, it includes parts to do the tuner board mod to replace the old tuner IC chip, and it includes parts to do the power supply board B resistor mod, so the board stops getting overheated.  These are all moderately complicated, but are important to do.  The instructions will walk you through them.

A note about STK packs:
The Kenwood KR-9600 uses a pair of TA-200W Darlington Power Packs for outputs--one for each channel.  These blow up sometimes, so if your KR-9600 won't come out of protection, you probably have a bad STK pack.  These packs have not been made for decades, so if you see any modern-looking ones they are probably Chinese fakes.  If you are looking for a replacement pack, I would recommend either watching for a used working pull or buying one of the kits where you can replace the STKs with discrete output transistors.  Hopefully I will have a replacement for these eventually.

I will include surprisingly well-written instructions, but this is a complicated rebuild, and you should know what you're doing and have a decent soldering iron, a little heat-sink compound, and a dim-bulb tester with a 100W incandescent bulb.
