This is for an original 1951 Topps Blue Back unopened wax
pack that has been encapsulated and graded by PSA as NM 7. Similar to the Topps
Red Back set with both sets containing 52 cards resembling playing cards, the cards
were meant to be used to play a baseball game with each card having a
designated baseball call like the 1968 Topps game cards. While Red Backs are
known as Series A, the Blue Backs are known as Series B with both sets having
the information printed on the front of the card under the player and the back
looking like a playing card. Both sets were a part of Topps entry into the
baseball card market but for some reason the Blue Backs are light years rarer
than the Red Backs. Just a quick look at the PSA population report will show
that over 482 Red Back packs have been holdered by PSA while only 58 Blue Back
packs have been encapsulated. Even in unholdered form, Red Back packs are much
more readily available than Blue Backs. This is one of 22 PSA NM 7 graded
examples, and with people investing in graded unopened material, don’t expect
many more to enter the marketplace, meaning the prices of vintage unopened
material will only continue to skyrocket as one of the leading investments in
sports memorabilia. A great looking rare pack and a must have for those starting
pack collections on PSA’s set registry. This pack features PSA’s smaller 5 ¼ x 3
1/2 1/4 holder as opposed to the original 7 x 4 ½ inch holders. I also have
another 1951 Blue Back PSA 7 pack on ebay if you are interested.
