1968 airmail cover from Florence, Italy to the USA, franked with 110 lire in postage, including a 100-lire Dante Alighieri stamp from the "Great Men" series and a 10-lire Michelangiolo stamp from the "Prominent Italians" series. Sent by noted historian David Herlihy to Fred W. Kohlmeyer, the editor of Agricultural History at the University of Illinois. Herlihy was a prominent scholar of medieval and Renaissance Italian history. A great piece for collectors of Italian postal history, historians, or those interested in academic correspondence and the exchange of ideas. The back of the cover contains handwritten notes that are an identification of the stamps by year and Scott Catalog number. See photos for details.
