An original, copperplate engraved, antique map of the NORTH RIDING of YORKSHIRE by Robert Morden. The map was first published in Camden's Britannia in 1695 with minor amendments to place names in 1715, 1722, 1753 and 1772. This map is a 1st edition. The map is unframed and unmounted with later hand colour. The printed area is 360x420mm. It features an ornamental, scrolled title cartouche and three mileage scales and shows towns, villages, woodlands, hills, parks, wapentakes and rivers and is the first map of the North Riding to include latitude and longitude. The map, which apart from a couple of printer's creases is in very good condition.
