The agar medium is a general-purpose growth substrate designed to support the cultivation of a wide range of mushrooms (fungi). Pre-poured agar plates are suitable for use in educational settings, such as classroom experiments or science fair projects as well laboratory or domestic research and cultivation.

MEA is formulated with industry standard bacteriological grade ingredients: agar, malt extract, peptone.

The agar medium is prepared using water purified with a Millipore Milli-Q laboratory water system. It is sterilised by autoclaving and subsequently poured within a sterile laminar flow hood. Petri dishes are vacuum sealed in packs of 2 or 3 to maintain sterility and ensure product integrity.
