Gladiatorial combat was a spectacle for the crowds. It had to be very visually appealing. There was a lot of variation in the weapons, helmets and armor that gladiators wore. Not all gladiators wore armor. The arm protection was known as “manica”, which roughly translates to “the sleeve”. It could be made of steel, bronze, leather, or thick padded cloth. If a gladiator had one arm protected with Gladiator Manica 2, it was generally his right arm, with his sword in his right hand. The left arm was protected by the shield he carried in his left hand
