Very rare if not one of a kind Johann Faber Dip Pen Holder (handle) made in New York during the mid-1800s. Johann, also known as John Eberhard Faber, was born in Germany and arrived in New York in 1849. He opened a stationery store in New York in 1850. Unknown wood however he started using American Red Cedar for his pencil manufacturing.
Johann merged with his relatives A.W. Faber in the 1920s. A.W. Faber is the 5th on the Register of American Companies with the four ahead of it no longer trading. This maker A.W. Faber the oldest continuous brand name in America.
