Presenting a truly unique and exquisite piece: "Waiting For Ships" is a framed cross-stitch masterpiece, lovingly
handcrafted by my mother in the late 1990s. This intricate artwork showcases detailed
stitching, 100% handmade with exceptional skill and dedication. The framing was
expertly done by a local artisan from a small business in Southern Louisiana,
adding a personal and distinctive touch to this one-of-a-kind piece. The
high-quality frame measures 20 5/8 inches in length, 14 5/8 inches in width and 3/4 inch in depth, perfectly complementing the cross-stitch design.
When considering this item, please note that though the
frame may show some signs of wear (see photos), each stitch represents months,
if not years, of careful and loving craftsmanship.
This framed cross-stitch artwork features a serene and elegant mermaid. She has long flowing brown hair adorned with pearls or shells, and she is gazing into the distance as if waiting or watching for ships. Her scales are intricately detailed in shades of green, blue, and lavender, blending beautifully into her long, curled tail. A soft gradient of blues and greens enhance the sense of motion in the ocean waves forming part of her tail. The delicate stitching captures the textures of her flowing seaweed-like adornments, and bright blue stars decorate her chest. The artwork is set against a soft, neutral background, emphasizing the mermaid’s vibrant colors and the flowing, almost ethereal quality of the design.
