ALASKA CAPITAL MOVE 1980s SPONGE - "DON'T LET WILLOW SOAK UP OUR $" - "THREE BILLION TOO MUCH" JUNEAU VOTE NO CAMPAIGN

The "ultimate" vote in the long struggle to move the Alaska State Capital from Juneau to Willow (near Anchorage) took place on Nov. 2, 1984, ending ongoing efforts since the late 1970s.  

Opponents suceeded in placing an initiative on the ballot requiring voter approval of the estimated $3-billion-plus relocation costs. The initiative was defeated, spelling the end of the capital move attempt.

The only other one of these sponges that I have seen since that time resides in the collection of the Alaska State Museum (see last picture).
