Probus   History:

born AD 232,  in Sirmium, Pannonia now Serbia. and—died 282 AD.

Roman emperor from ad 276 to 282.
The son of a Balkan military officer, Probus served with distinction in the army

and apparently was eastern praetorian prefect when his troops proclaimed him

emperor in opposition to Florian, who was soon killed by his own men.

Probus’s reign was spent in continual frontier warfare against hostile tribes on

the Rhine and Danube, complicated by insurrections in Britain, Gaul, and the East.

His policy of allowing outside tribes to settle within the empire proved dangerous.
Fourth-century writers attest to his intense interest in agriculture.

He encouraged the planting of vineyards in Gaul, Spain, and Britain.

Different accounts of Probus's death exist.   According to some historians, the

commander of the Praetorian Guard Marcus Aurelius Carus had been proclaimed,

more or less unwillingly, emperor by his troops.
Probus sent some troops against the new usurper, but when those troops changed

sides and supported Carus,   Probus' remaining soldiers assassinated him at

Sirmium (September/October 282 AD).
According to other sources, however, Probus was killed by disgruntled soldiers,

who rebelled against his orders to be employed for civic purposes, like draining

marshes. Allegedly, the soldiers were provoked when they overheard him

lamenting the necessity of a standing army. Carus was proclaimed emperor after

Probus' death and avenged the murder of his predecessor.

According to the favorable treatment of the Augustan History, Probus was the

last of the benevolent constitutional emperors of Rome. While his successor Carus

(Imp. 282-284) simply disdained to seek the senate's confirmation of his title, the

latter's successor Diocletian (Imp. 284-305) took active measures to undermine its

authority, and established the autocratic nature and divine derivation of the Imperial

power. Never again, after Diocletian's reforms, would the Roman senate play an

active role in the management of the empire. On the military sphere, Probus'

victories continued the succession of martial Illyrian emperors begun by

Claudius Gothicus, which restored the military supremacy of Rome after defeats

sustained during the crisis of the third century.

 PLEASE NOTE OUR POLICIES:

EC&A regards Customer Service extremely important to us for your satisfaction.  We wish to always provide a positive and trustworthy experience, and we offer completely unconditional no-questions-asked returns as long as we are notified within the 30-calendar day return window.

OUR RAW COIN POLICY:

We highly recommend that any buyer of any coins online have the necessary knowledge and numismatic expertise in all aspects of the coin collecting industry, values, pricing, and a strong understanding of the condition and grading standards as recommended by the American Numismatic Association before purchasing or bidding on any coin from us, or from any other source.

We offer a 30-day inspection period, however, we cannot and will not guarantee any subjective opinion (that being a certain grade or condition) of a third party, nor guarantee that any mint error coin variety, die stage or die state mentioned will be labeled as such if it is not one recognized by the third party for labeling purposes. There are literally hundreds of known mint errors and varieties that are not recognized by all third parties for labeling purposes. Some recognize some, some recognize others that some don’t.  We assume no liability or responsibility for any known mint errors that any third party refuses to recognize for their labeling purposes. Please know your coins, and the policies of the grader you choose.  The policies of all the third-parties about what they do or don't recognize are just too vast and numerous for us to mention here.  We seek out and sell ALL known mint errors, not just the ones recognized by the professional graders.  For example, a certain year/mint coin may have three known mint errors, but one grader may recognize just one, while another may recognize just two or all three.

Any mention we may make of the condition of any raw coin, is truly only our opinion and not to be confused with being “a certain numerical grade”.  The "condition" of a coin refers only to it's wear from Poor to Uncirculated including the terms BU, GEM and SUPERB GEM, and what it may have been exposed to in handling.  A "grade" is a numerical number from 1 to 70, We do try very hard to be precise in our opinion of condition, but we just cannot guarantee that any third party will agree with our subjective opinion of condition, as they may assign a different opinion that may be a higher opinion, a lower opinion or the same opinion of ours, yours or another third party.  We do not offer these numerical grades on raw coins in our listings.

We do not second-guess a buyer’s reasons for purchasing our coins. If the buyer feels that once received, any coin purchased does not meet the buyer’s own criteria and wants to return it, the buyer is then obligated to request a return of the coin within the parameters of the 30-calendar day period for a full refund. Please understand that any request to return MUST be initiated within the eBay-sanctioned buyer/seller protection 30-day window. We cannot accept returns for full refund after the 30-day period commencing on the day that tracking shows delivery.  We feel that 30 days is sufficient time to decide.

OUR GRADED COIN POLICY:

We guarantee that any graded and encapsulated coin listed that has been graded accordingly of the grade that appears on the holder by the third party company that has encapsulated it, to be the grade the third party assigned it. We cannot guarantee any graded coin that has been resubmitted to the same company, or as a crossover to another company, that has resulted in a different condition or grade, or that has been encapsulated in a different holder and/or registration number than as it was sold.

 RETURN POLICY:

We offer FREE no-questions-asked returns within thirty days measured from the day that tracking shows the item delivered.

Simply click on “Return This Item” and a free return label will be generated and provided for any reason chosen as long as the request is within 30 days of the date delivered.  Once the coin has been received and checked back into inventory, the buyer will be refunded, and is expected to be processed within two days.  Because we try our very best to describe our coins as honestly as possible, some of our description is simply our subjective opinion that others may not agree with, and being that you will receive a free return label anyway, we kindly urge our clients not to choose "Not as Described", and simply choose "Changed my Mind" or "Just Didn't Like it".  These reasons will still generate a free label.
