Story of product
Before World War II
When Mr. Chui Sai, surname Sim, immigrated from China to
settle
in Thailand in Bang Khla District, Chachoengsao Province, he
started with
gardening and raising ducks and chickens. When he had some
capital, he opened a grocery store in Bang Khla Market.
And because he used to be a child who helped prepare
medicine and boil medicine in a Chinese medicine shop
when he was in China, he had knowledge of herbal medicine
and pulse reading.
Mr. Chui Sai therefore experimented with making medicine for
his own use among his relatives and close friends in the neighborhood.
In 1935, Mr.
Chui Sai moved to Bangkok, near Talad Noi, Yaowarat. He still worked as a
porter during the day.
However, because he used to be a boy who helped prepare
medicine in a Chinese medicine shop in China,
he had a lot of knowledge about herbal medicine.
At night or during free time, he would think of herbal
medicine formulas and experiment with different kinds of medicine.
He used them himself for his relatives and close friends in
the area to treat in his own way.
When people started to like it, he took it to sell at
various drug stores to earn extra income to support his family.
He used the name “Sim Thian Ho Cough Drops” (He made many
kinds of medicine, but the most popular one was the cough drop).
During World War II, Mr. Chui Sai fled the
war and moved his family to Phra Pradaeng District.
When there was a major flood, he saw centipedes escaping the
water and climbing up the walls of his house. He thought that
he should make it a trademark because of the belief of
ancient Chinese doctors that
they must use detoxifying poison to cure illnesses. The
number 5 is considered an auspicious number for the Chinese.
After the war ended,
he moved back to Bangkok and designed a medicine packet
using a centipede symbol on both sides with a picture of Mr. Jui Sai in the
middle, which is considered the origin of the brand
5 Centipedes. At the same time, he also made many other
medicines, having to carry a suitcase
to sell at various drug stores. With perseverance, fighting
and overcoming obstacles for more than twenty years,
the products finally started selling and became well-known
later.
Mr. Chui Sai moved to the Sim Shrine on the Thonburi side
and opened a drug store, Sim Thian Ho, which sold ready-made
medicines
and also examined patients and ground herbal medicines.
After Mr. Jui Sai passed away in 1973,
the second generation heir decided to stop the drugstore
business
and turned to establish a company to produce medicines only,
using the name "Ha Takhap (Sim Thian Ho) Company Limited"
and have been improving the production process ever since.
Until 1980, a new factory was built, located on Rama II
Road, Bang Khun Thian District. The new factory had a building suitable for
renovation and quality development to be more efficient. Modern and hygienic
machinery was also introduced to work with human labor, including the addition
of personnel with specialized knowledge to research and produce new flavors of
lozenges, as well as designing packaging to be more convenient, modern, and
attractive than before.
We have developed our business to overseas by starting to
export to Hong Kong
first. Then we expanded to ASEAN. We have distributors in
each country
that are directly involved in the pharmaceutical business
such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei
Singapore, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Russia and other
countries in the future.
Established a company named Ha Ta Khab Trading (Thailand)
Co., Ltd.
which will import and distribute good and famous products
abroad so that Thai people can use quality products
and increase variety for consumers. The imported products
are chili patches, Poras Capsicum
plasters, muscle pain relief patches that are good quality
and herbal oil medicine
Yu Yi Oil, a famous product in Malaysia and Singapore with a
history of more than 150 years
It is widely accepted and has received many awards. In the
future, we will select quality products
and import them from many countries as well.
At present, the
company has a policy to develop efficiency in every aspect, whether in
production, quality control, and product development, in order to obtain good
quality products that are worth the price and are more acceptable to consumers.
And has expanded the market until today, the 5-Segment Centipede cough drops
are available in many ASEAN countries and are more accepted by foreigners.
