Back in the days before GPS navigation, we used VORs, NDBs, and even beacon lights, pilots navigated the hard way. We still use VORs and in rare cases NDBs but they are on the endangered list as GPS has become the major navigational tool in the sky.

Pilot still carry paper charts - or should just in case the iPad overheats or dies!
