Multi-room audio systems are great for distributing music throughout your home from a centrally located music source, like a mass-storage CD changer. But what if you want to listen to your bedroom TV through your in-wall speakers? This Russound amplifier is a great solution. It lets you switch easily between your central sources and a "local" audio/video component.
In its "default" mode, the R235LS simply passes signals from your main system to your in-wall speakers, so you can listen to your shared music sources. When it senses current coming in from a connected local source, like your bedroom TV, this amplifier turns itself on and plays that source through your speakers. The compact R235LS features a clean, low profile for clutter-free installation in your listening room.
Overview: The Russound R235LS is a 2-channel amplifier with automatic switching and a space-saving low-profile design. Typically used for local source switching, the R235LS allows a source such as a bedroom TV or office PC to automatically override the normal audio program in that particular zone of a distributed audio system. When the local source is turned on, the amplifier switches the room speakers to its own output. The R235LS provides autosensing line and amplified inputs as well as a trigger input for versatility in different applications.
System Configuration: The R235LS can be used as a single-source two-channel zone amplifier, or as a local-source amplifier that automatically senses between a default source such as a whole-house audio distribution system and a local source such as a bedroom TV or Personal Computer.
2-Channel Amplifier: The R235LS is rated at 35 watts per channel into 8 ohms and 50 watts per channel into 4 ohms. In bridged mode the R235LS is rated at 100 watts of power into a single 8-ohm load. Each amplifier output channel incorporates robust protection circuitry for safety and reliability under extreme circumstances.
Bridged Operation: When the amplifier is in bridged mode operation, both the left and right channels are combined for a high powered mono output. For bridged amplifier operation, connect an 8-ohm minimum load to the Speaker B output and the line level out from your source to the left line level in of this amplifier.
Thermal Protection: The Russound 2-channel amplifier is designed with special circuitry to safeguard the amplifier under a thermal overload condition. Thermal Protection mode can only engage when the unit has been run at high volume for extended periods of time without adequate ventilation and/or when speaker impedances are below the minimum levels for the amplifier.
Protection Circuitry: This Russound amplifier is designed with special circuitry to safeguard the amplifier under a short-circuit condition. A fault speaker can also cause a short circuit condition. The front panel LED illuminates orange when the amplifier is in short circuit protection.
Power LED: The amplifier's LED will illuminate red when the power is on and the amplifier is in default/standby mode and illuminate green when the amplifier is active.
Power Switch: The amplifier's power switch turns the unit on and off. This switch, however, does not disconnect the main power feed from the amplifier; this requires that the power cord be unplugged from the AC outlet.
Gain Controls: The amplifier features left and right gain control to independently adjust the sound level for each channel. When in bridged mode, only the left control is used.
Delay Time: The amplifier's delay time can be adjusted from approximately 5 seconds to 5 minutes. When an audio signal is no present, this delay setting will automatically switch the amp to the default input mode after the preset period of time.
Stereo/Bridge Mono Switch: This switch sets the pair of amplifier channels for stereo or bridge mono operation.
Line Input: The amplifier's stereo RCA audio input is a sensing input that will activate the amplifier when an audio signal form a source is present. Only the left input is used for bridged mode operation.
Video Input: The composite video input is a sensing input that activates the R235LS when a video signal is present.
12VDC Trigger In/Out: The 12V Trigger In (3.5mm) controls the amplifier switching from the default input (distributed audio system) to a local source. The Trigger Out (3.5mm) provides 100mA 12V max. this can be used to drive other 12V trigger devices. The delay and audio sensing features of the amplifier are bypassed when the 12V trigger input is used.
Amplified Input: The amplified input accepts speaker level signal and is a sensing input that will activate the amplifier when an audio signal is present.
Default In: The default input is a speaker-level passthrough from the default input to the speaker output.
Speaker A/B Outputs: The A and B speaker outputs are in parallel to the amplifier output. The minimum load in stereo mode is 4-ohms. This can be used to drive up to 2 pairs of 8-ohms speaker or 1 pair- 4-ohm speakers. The minimum load impedance for bridge mode operation is 8-ohms, Speaker B only.
AC Input: The AC voltage input is 120VAC at 60Hz. This receptacle accepts a 3-prong IEC 320 type connector. A detachable 3-terminal 6' power cord is included.
