Antique Solid Silver
APOSTLE SAUCE LADLE
-----------
Hallmarked for London 1878
with the maker`s mark - H J L, for
Henry John Lias
This mark only appears for about a year.
The father & son partnership (HL over HL) was
registered in 1850. Possibly the father died and
the son continued using his own mark.
-----------
A superb ladle, the deep, gilded bowl is almost
perfectly round. The straight stem has a barley
twist section to the centre, with an apostle at
the end. Towards the bowl is the figure of a
woman, who might be in a coffin. Between this
and the bowl is the head of a man.
