The standard color scheme for DB long-distance locomotives is traffic red with a light gray front bar. For the anniversary of “50 Years of Intercity in Germany”, in September 2021, Deutsche Bahn gave the 101 013 the color scheme that matches the paintwork of the IC cars. It received the light gray design with traffic red decorative stripes familiar from the ICE and long-distance trains. A total of 145 examples of the 101 series were put into service by the end of 1999.
