This is for an original ticket stub for the June 17 1954 Heavyweight Championship fight between the champion Rocky Marciano and challenger Ezzard Charles at Yankee Stadium. This would be the first fight between the two as exactly 3 months later they would both return to Yankee Stadium for a rematch. Charles would out box Marciano in the first 5 rounds and even open a cut over Marciano’s left eye that cut man Freddie Brown would call the worst he had ever seen. After round 5 Charles would slow down his assault and a bloody Marciano would start to find his rhythm. By round 10 Marciano was clearly ahead but kept pressuring Charles trying for a knockout. At the end of the fight, Charles’ left eye was shut, his lower lip was split and he had a blood clot on his jaw and Marciano would stand victorious with a 15 round unanimous decision. The ticket has some creases but still displays nicely. Rocky would leave this fight with a 46-0 record with only 3 more fights left in his record breaking career. A must have for any boxing collector.
